平久保半島を
知ろう

大自然がギュッと詰め込まれた石垣島最北端の秘境、平久保半島。最もくびれている「ふなくやー（舟越）」を入口に最北端まで約12㎞。小さな5つの集落で暮らす人々と、多様な生きものたちが共棲しています。朝、太平洋からのぼる朝日に目覚め、夕方、東シナ海に陽が沈むと流れ星のシャワーを浴びて1日を締めくくる。大自然の中、そんなシンプルでかけがえのない暮らしがここでは大切に営まれています。

The Hirakubo Peninsula, a stretch of about 12 km at the northernmost tip of Ishigaki Island, a hidden gem filled with untouched nature.
In five small villages the islanders live in coexistence with precious flora and fauna. They wake up to the sunrise over the Pacific Ocean, and end their day after the sun sets into the East China Sea under a shower of shooting stars.
In these pristine surroundings, a simple and irreplaceable way of life is cherished.

南に位置する八重山諸島は日本の中でも多くの星が見えるエリアですが、市街地から離れた位置にあり、さらに沖縄県最高峰の於茂登岳が光を遮っているため、よりたくさんの星を観ることができます。
平久保半島で暮らす人たちが1日の終わりに大切にしているのが、“流れ星を浴びる時間”。あ…そうそう、時にはUFOが見えることも⁉　そんな特別感が味わえるのは、ここに住む人々がこの土地で自然と共に生きる暮らしを大切に育んできているからこそなのです。

The Yaeyama Islands are famous for great stargazing. On the Hirakubo Peninsula you are away from the urban area. With Mt. Omoto, the highest peak in Okinawa, blocking the lights from downtown, you can observe even more stars here. Oh, and sometimes you can even spot a UFO!? The reason this place has such a special feel to it is because the people that live here have carefully cultivated and preserved a lifestyle in harmony with nature.
